AYR TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA
Ayr Township, in Fulton County, Pennsylvania, was once comprised of a large area of the state, just north of the Maryland line, in what is now part of Huntingdon county embraced by Dublin, Shirley, Tell, Cromwell, Springfield, Clay and part of Cass, and probably part of Union townships; along with part of Franklin County now embracing Warren township, known as Little Cove, and parts of Peters and Metal, and possibly part of Fannet townships, covering a section about the size of the State of Rhode Island. Ayr Township was first established in Cumberland County, as Aire township. Cumberland County was organized about 1750 from Lancaster County. Out of Cumberland County, Bedford was formed, taking in Shirley, Dublin, and those other townships in Huntingdon County. Huntingdon was formed out of Bedford County, and Fulton County out of Cumberland.
