The head of this family came from Ireland and settled in Pa.
Had at least three sons, two of these sons (David and
Thomas) settled in Charleston, S.C. and engaged in the
mercantile business. The wife/mother of this family
died crossing the ocean when she went after some money.
They or their descendants bought real estate in the upper
part of South Carolina at Pickens or Spartenburg as late as

____ (1) b. bef. 1765 in Ireland; d. 1882 in Diamond
Hill, Jackson Co., GA; drew Lee County land granted Aug. 2, 1836. Also seen as David LATTEY & David LATTY. Married twice: (1) First wife Unknown, about
the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He soon after joined the army. Shortly
after he obtained permission to go home as his wife was confined and gave birth to
twins, and she and the children died. He returned to the army and remained
until the close of the war. (2) In 1784 he married Mrs. Priscilla
Shelton, nee Kichens. She had two children by Mr. Shelton, Joseph and Sarah.
Sarah married Samuel Bean and lived near Murfreesboro, Tenn. Six sons by second
wife, all born and reared in S.C. Went to Hall Co., Ga. in 1820 with five

Married: Elizabeth Herndon of Abbleville, S.C. in 1810, daughter of John and Jane
Herndon. She was born in 1786 and died in January of 1852, in Hall Co.,
Ga. He served in the U.S. Army during the removal of the Cherokee Indians
to Ark. in 1837-8. Hall County Military Indian War - John Latty of Buffington's
Company of Lindsey's Georgia Militia, Cherokee Wars. John's son were farmers,
mechanics, and cabinet makers. Members of Missionary Baptist Church.

Army in "D" Co. 37th Ga. Vol. Inf. under Gens. Bragg, J.E. Johnston and J.B. Hood, in
every general engagement the army had in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia, except
Hood's last battle at Nashville, Tenn. Was wounded just after the Franklin
fight, captured and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio. Released May 16, 1865. In
1907 lived at Ider, DeKalb Co., Ala. Children:

She was born 1831 in Rome, Floyd Co., GA and died April 18,
1908 in Granby, Newton Co., Missouri. After his
death, Julia married John Farmer and they lived in Missouri in 1880. (In the 1870
census, Julia lists a daughter named Abigal McLaughlin. - this report was from
Patricia Bundy) Julia died at Granby, Mo. April 18, 1908.
"Histories of Granby People by Dixie Haase states "Grandma
Farmer (Julia Cagle Latta Farmer) was born in Georgia in
1831. She has lived near Grandby for 35 years. She was
a member of the Free Will Baptist Church for 30 years.
She leaves one son and four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Taylor,
and Mrs. Dick Hillard live in Granby. She was buried
in the new cemetery, Granby May 2, 1908." Children:

Reed. He was born March 31, 1838 in Cherokee Co., NC,
and died Feb. 26, 1908 in Prineville, Crook Co., Oregon; 3)
John Fields August 8, 1909 in Prineville, Crook Co., Oregon.
He was born abt. 1850; 4) Thomas J. M. Riggs on June 2, 1917
in Crook Co., OR. He was born Dec. 28, 1856 in Oregon
and died May 15, 1936 in Lane Co., OR. Mary Frances first
shows up on census ni 1870 in Arkansas, Polk County, as the
wife of Wesley Slovis, age 21. Three years later she
marries William Jasper Watkins. When Mary Frances
died, there were divorce papers found in the bottom of her
trunk (Joanne Handorff info.). Obituary: Mrs.
Mary F. Riggs dies, Burial Rites Held Here. Funeral services
were held here Tuesday, June 29, for Mrs. Mary F. Riggs, a
resident of Prineville for 45 years who died Sunday at
Portland. Rev. W. N. Byars was in charge of the final rites
for Mrs. Riggs which were held at the Prineville Community
Church at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in the Prineville Cemetery.
Mrs. Riggs became ill about three months ago and she moved
to Portland, Oregon to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Viola
Burgunder in Portland, were the death occurred on Sunday,
June 27, 1943. Born March 4, 1854 in Meda, Arkansas, Mary F.
Latta was a daughter of Julia Ann and Frank Latta, both of
whom were natives of Georgia. On July 20, she was married to
William Jasper Watkins at Webb City, Missouri and they came
to Eugene in 1888. Ten years later the family came to
Prineville. Mr. Watkins death occurred in 1908. Four
daughters and three sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Watkins
and all survive their mother, namely, Mrs. Pamelia A. Barnes
of Salem, Mrs. Ruth Armbruste and Mrs. Viola Burgunder of
Portland, and Mrs. Martha Stanton of Boise, Idaho; Aaron
Watkins and Jesse R. Watkins of Prineville and Barney A.
Watkins of Spiro, Oklahoma. Mrs. Watkins was married in 1916
to Tom Riggs, who preceded her in death. She had been
a member of the Christian Church of Prineville for many

Obituary: James W. Taylor, 86 years old died at
12:30 Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Walter McGhee. He had been a resident of Commerce and Miami
for the past thirty years. Taylor is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. McGhee and Mrs. Al Morton, Commerce, 22
grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the First
Methodist Church in Commerce. The Rev. J. F. Fisher and the
Rev. Jacobs will officiate. The body will lie in state from
3:30 Wednesday afternoon until the funeral hour Thursday
morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Morton.
Burial will be in Granby, Missouri cemetery. Lane Funeral

Edgefield, S.C. She could trace her ancestry back to 1600. Her father was
in the War of 1812. Five of her brothers were in the Confederate Army.
William served in the Confederate Army in "A" Co. 53d Ga. Vol. Lost right leg
below the knee at Funct Town, Md. July 10, 1863. Prisoner at Point Lookout,
Chesapeake Bay, 9 months. Retired in 1864. In 1912 lived at Griffin, Ga.
Was a Coroner in Spalding Co., Ga. for 22 years. Member of Christian Church.

Eunice Margaret Lattie Starks, 74, of Gilmer County,
Elijay, Georgia, died November 23, 1982 in Atlanta, GA.
Mrs. Starks was born August 11, 1908, in Gilmer County, GA,
the daughter of the late John Michael and Mary Polly Harper
Lattie. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Walter
Starks; daughters, Mrs. Oleeta Parks, Mrs. Mary Nell Ellis,
Mrs. Glenda Whitaker and Mrs. Margie Arnold; eight
grandchildren and five great grandchildren; brother, Claude
Lattie, sisters, Mrs. Opal Starks and Mrs. Myrtle Holt.
Services were held November 26, 1982 at Calvary Way Baptist
Church. Interment was in Mountaintown Baptist Church
Cemetery. Logan Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
