Margaret Catherine Latty, daughter of John and Fannie Latty, was born near Daisy, Arkansas, November 5, 1866. On March 27, 1884, she was married to James Henry Westfall, of Caddo Gap who preceded her in death 15 years ago.  She is survived by 7 sons, A.L. Westfall of Childress, Texas, J. Alvin Westfall of Hot Springs, T.J. Westfall of Texarkana, Texas, Joe A. Westfall of Camden, B.F., D.C, and R.H. Westfall, all of Glenwood; two daughters, Miss Alice Westfall and Mrs. Mable Kibler, both of Glenwood; 19 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Westfall was converted and united with the Christian Church, early in life, later joining the County Line Methodist Church having been a member of this church for more than a quarter of a century. She has been a resident of Montgomery County for more than 50 years. She had been in failing health for the past 5 years and had been a confirmed invalid for the past year. The end came quietly and peacefully at 9:23 p.m., November 13 at the family home, one mile north of Glenwood. Funeral services were conducted from the County Line Church, Wednesday morning, November 15, the services being in charge of Dr. J.T. Barr of Norman, who was assisted by Robbie Dale Hughes of Ouachita College, Arkadelphia. Interment was in County Line Cemetery in charge of Westbrook Funeral Home.

John S. (2) John (1) b. Feb. 17, 1853 in Georgia; d. 1897; m. Mary Gilbert, daughter of Felix Gilbert and Nancy Gilbert. Mary was born in Alabama. James is buried in the Caney Cemetery, Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Mary S. Latta, wife of James M. Latta, states in her Eastern Cherokee Application that her husband, James M. Latta, is the son of John Latta and he is the one that came from the Cherokee tribe in the Cherokee Nation from the State of Alabama and was at the enrollment in 1835, Lookout Valley in the State of Tennessee. (The majority of Americans who descend from a Native American ancestor do not qualify for tribal membership. Their ancestors may have left the tribe long before the 1817 Treaty with the Cherokee, which lead to the creation of the Reservation Roll that listed the head of every Indian family residing on the east side of the Mississippi River on lands that were then or would thereafter be surrendered to the United States in exchange for citizenship. They received a life estate of 640 acres of land from the federal government. The government then took the 1835 Cherokee East of the Mississippi Census.) Children:

Latta, was born, I think, in Cherokee Co., GA. He died in 1897, and he was about 50 years old when he died. He lived with the Indians in Georgia. He was a recognized member of the tribe when he lived there. He moved from Georgia with his father when he was a small boy. The whole generation came with him...When they left Georgia, they moved to Arkansas...My father left Ark. And came to Okla. In 1891. I don’t know whether my grandfather was ever enrolled or not. He moved out here also." (Statement taken - Sept. 26, 1908)

20     HENRY SYLVESTER (4) b. Feb. 8, 1912; d. June, 1977 in Stilwell, Adair County, Oklahoma.  (Social Security Index)  Adair County is located in eastern Oklahoma, bordered by Arkansas. Created in 1907 from the lands of the Cherokee Nation's Going Snake and Flint Districts, Adair County was named after a well known Cherokee family, Stilwell. Sites of interest within Adair County include the site near Westville of the Old Baptist Missionary Church, built by the "Trail of Tears" Cherokees in 1836. Area - 569 Square Miles - Recreation Area - Adair Major Stream Systems - Illinois River, Sallisaw and Little Lee Creek.
