1 JANE (1) LATTA,
Born in North of Ireland. She died in Lancaster Co. Pa. Married in
Ireland to
Robert Ross. He was born in 1709, in Ireland. He died and was buried
on the Robert McClain farm
on the banks of the Monongahela river June 21,1787. The family went
from Ireland to Lancaster
County Colony of Penn. about 1745. They had one daughter and three
sons: Margaret , born in Ireland .
Died at the age of four years of small pox in 1816.She was buried in
her fathers grave, following an old
custom that had prevailed in Ireland. The three sons were: Joseph ,
born in Lancaster Co. Pa.
Went to the west and was lost sight of. James born in Lancaster Co.
Pa. And died there early in
life. Robert born in Lancaster Co., Pa. Sept.4,1753. Died in Fayette
Co. Pa. Nov.12,1823
In 1776 Robert took the oath of allegiance before Col. Miller of
Lancaster Co. Pa. and
enlisted in the Revolutionary war as a private in Capt James Taylor's
company,4th Penn. Battalion. Was regimental color bearer in 1776 ,
under Gen. Anthony Wayne , at
the storming of Stony Point Rockland Co. N.Y. In 1779 at Brandywine,
Pa. And through the
Canadian campaign to the close of the war. Married twice,1st to
Elizabeth Hamilton, she died. In
1783 he married Dorcus Andrews. He had several children, but no
account was kept of their births
or deaths, except one, Joseph who grew to manhood. After the war
Robert and wife Dorcus and
sons Joseph and Robert went from Lancaster Co. Pa. To Fayette Co. Pa.

Great grandsons of Robert and
Jane Latta Ross. His Brother, Frank M. Ross, of Corsopolis, Allegheny
Co., Pa. son of Moses A.
And Cynthia A. (Mitchell) Ross, grandson of Robert and Elizabeth
Virginia (Lemaire) Ross,
great grandson of Robert Ross, private 4th Battalion, Penn. Regt.
Color bearer.
In branch No.19, John Latta married Margaret Ross. John
lived in
Lancaster Co. Pa. So did Robert and Jane Latta Ross , above. This
Margaret Ross was a widow,as in his
will John mentioned his two step-sons Samuel and William Ross. John
served under
Washington at Braddocks defeat in 1775. He died in 1768. There may be
a connection between the
two.
Was Jane Latta Ross related to Robert Latta, (branch No.
32)? Robert
came to America with the McLean family. The McLean name was spelled
different to the McClain
farm where Robert Ross was buried. But both lived in western
Pennsylvania near each other.
