JOHN (1) LATTA,

Orangeman. Lived in Ulster Co., Ireland. Was impressed by the British at the time of the Revolutionary War. He was on board for 18 months, and one day when they were sailing along the coast of Ireland he with four others were sent on shore to get some fresh water and they did not return. He finally reached America and enlisted in the Patriot Army. He was made a commissary and was with Washington at the battle of Princeton. He was court martialed. He left the wagons in charge of one of the others and picking up a musket rushed into the fight. He was ordered back to his post, seeing our men hard pushed he repeated the action. However he was cleared and commended by Gen. Washington who made him chief commissary. After the war he settled in Western Pennsylvania, supposed to be Washington Co. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Some of his sons went west and thought settled in Indiana.

John (1). Moved to West Virginia about 18. He stayed there a short time then went to southeastern Ohio; m. Miss Hockenbury. Children:

John (2) John (1). Farmer near Woodsfield, Ohio. Born 1837; d. at Miltonsburg, Ohio in 1916 where he married Mary Jane Morris in 1859, daughter of Henry George and Mary (Kinkade) Morris. Her father was Dutch, her mother was English. She was born in 1837 and died at Miltonsburg, Ohio May 17, 1927. Children were born in Eastern Ohio:

MARY BELLE (4) b. at Woodsfield, Ohio Route 3 in 1873. In 1934 lived there.

John C> (3) John (2) John (1). Born in 1867; d. February 27, 1934. Buried at Calais, Ohio. Married Mary L. Newhart in 1892. Physician. In 1930 lived at Cumberland, Ohio. In 1934 at Grayesville, Ohio. One child:

John C. (3) John (2). John (1). Born at Calais, Ohio in 1876; m. Elizabeth Udell, daughter of Walter and Mary Udell, at Gibson, Ohio September 9, 1905. In 1904 at University of Chicago, "52 M.D. Middle University Hall. Author of book of school poems and has written 300 songs, about 1,000 other poems. On June 17, 1929 delegate to the American Baptist Mission Convention at Denver, Colo. Missionary of the American Baptist Mission Compound, Thonze, Burma, British India, 1930. Children:
