LATTA/ SCHELL/ BOA I received your website from Betty Kitchen. I'm also exploring information on the SCHELL Family. I also have a LATTA in my family tree. She is my grandmother, Margaret "Maggie" LATTA. Born in 1884 in Tuckersmith Township, Huron County, Ontario Province, Canada. She died in 1954  Clinton, Ontario Province, Canada. My grandfather was William James BOA. He was born in 1882 in Usborne Township, Huron County, Ontario Province, Canada. They are both buried near Hensall, Huron County, Ontario Province, Canada. Hensall is west of London and South of Toronto. If you can assist me in locating my Grandmother's ancestors I would be deeply appreciative. I've already researched my grandfather's ancestors back to Roxburgh in Scotland, but no luck on my grandmother. Everyone always called them Bill and Maggie. They were farmers and very lovable. If you can lead me in the right direction, I would be grateful. Lawrence Schell, lawrence902@aol.com
LATTA

BOYCE

ELLIOTT

Joseph M. Latta, born approximately 1757, died April 16, 1821 in Fairfield Township, Butler County, Ohio.  Surviving him are his third wife, Elizabeth Forester Latta and two daughters, Rachel M. (Latta) Boyse/Boyce, and Mary "Polly" (Latta) Elliott, and possibly one son, Hiram Latta.  Other survivors may include Matilda Long Latta, but are largely unknown at this time.  Joseph Latta was a justice of the peace in Fairfield Township.  He may have resided in Fayette County, Kentucky prior to removing to Butler County, Ohio. Eager to know about him 183 years later are two of his great great great great granddaughters, Connie Leaman and Karen Swanson, descended through one of the other of his daughters. The 4th great granddaughters are also second cousins through another line.  Connie Leaman, 4427 SW 315th Federal Way WA 98023, R.Leaman@comcast.net

LATTA/ HARPER Looking at the Monroe County, Ohio, website I see: Jerusalem School. The Jerusalem School, which closed in 1958, was located in the Village of Jerusalem on what is known as Moore Ridge County Road No. 27. Included in this article are the names of former teachers. Can anyone identify who the Kay HARPER LATTA on this list would be?  Thank you. Betty Kitchen, 3505 Aurora Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087, kitchen2@adelphia.net
LATTA/ STREETER/ WARREN/ DUNWELL I'm looking for information about Romague LATTA, w/o Benjamin H. STREETER-WARREN. Benjamin was s/o Benjamin H. STREETER (1826-1896) & Amelia L. DUNWELL. After the death of Benjamin Sr., Amelia remarried to George P. WARREN, possibly in the Chicago area. I'm curious as to the background of Romague LATTA, whom Benjamin Jr. married 6/29/1904 in Goshen, IN. Eventually, they removed to the Detroit area, where he practiced law as general counsel for a number of Detroit area companies. Any clues, most welcome. Thanks in advance. kbcook@cfaith.com
ROMAGUE LATTA It appears likely that Romague LATTA is in LATTA Br. #1, family #37. Location is right and names are very close. What do you think? Alex Latta, Br. #16, Edmonton, Canada

AKERMAN

REICER

The 1900 census of Monroe County, Ohio has 2 new Lattas that I have never seen before.  I know the others in the county from 1840s to then.  (well, not personally) Can anyone identify these children? Charlie Latta, age 10, listed as a cousin in the family of Conrad & Louisa Akerman Ollie Latta, age 14, a servant in the Reicer home.  Thank you. Betty Latta Kitchen, Branch 17
LATTA/ GIBSON I'm hoping you can help me. I have been looking at the Latta.org website and found it very interesting. I'd like to find what branch Thomas LATTA belongs to and whom to contact regarding this branch. Thomas was born in 1799 at Alloa, Stirling, Scotland and married Sarah GIBSON on 29 June 1818 at Midlothian, Edinburgh, Scotland. He moved to Australia in 1840 and died at Bull Creek in South Australia on 28 September 1855. He had a number of children including: Jane (1820), Mary (1821), John (1823), Sarah (1824), Thomas (1826), Elizabeth (1828), Robert (1830), William (1831), and Charles (1833). E-mail me if you need any further clarification. Thanking you in advance. Richard Latta, New Zealand richardlatta@clear.net.nz
LATTA/ GIBSON Dear Richard: It appears that you are in Br. #14, and the Captain is Ian Latta of Scotland. His e-mail is willilatta@tiscali.co.uk. He was born at Old Comnock, where Thomas came from. Your nearest relative in NZ is Eric LATTA. His e-mail is LattaME@xtra.co.nz. The connection between these two has only recently been established. If you cannot get help with these, I have much more info, but you would have to be specific. Glad to help. I hope I can live up to the reputation I seem to have acquired. Sincerely, Alex Latta, Br. #16, Captain, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, allatta@gambit.ab.ca
LATTA PLANTATION My sister visited the LATTA Plantation recently. She is a journalist and is working on an article about the history of the Plantation. Her visit has resulted in an interest in the connection between Branch 13 (our branch) and Branch 12 (in particular, James LATTA, who established the Latta Plantation). William LATTA (1) of Brnch 13 was born in Londonderry in 1761, and James LATTA was born in Antrim, Ireland in 1755. My sister wants to know the relationship between William and James. I have told her that they were "probably cousins." But she wants some facts - not speculation. Can any of you genealogists who are experts on our Irish roots help? Keith Latta, Victoria, BC, Branch 13
LATTA/ JACK It is interesting that the JACK and LATTA families married in Ireland because they also married in Westmoreland County, PA, see the article below. The JACK family was very prominent in early Westmoreland County; there is much more about them in Albert's history. The branch of Sewickley Creek that flows through Greensburg is known as "Jacks Run." A couple questions are raised by this information. (1) How did Elizabeth (Libbie) Potter JACK of Greensburg, PA meet James M. LATTA of Goshen, IN? (2) Is the Walter KATTA her sister Maggie married a misspelling of Walter LATTA; if so, who is he? Note that James and Libbie named a son Walter. Tom Kintigh, tqkintigh@att.net, Branch #3, Tucson, AZ
LATTA/ JACK/ MCKEE/ HAMILTON Branch 22 also has a JACK family connection. Margaret "Peggy" MCKEE married John LATTA, son of Matthew LATTA, a pioneer in Woodford County, KY. Peggy's mother was Jane "Jennie" JACK who married Robert MCKEE. MCKEES have Pennsylvania and Virginia roots. Robt MCKEE and Jennie JACK married in 1795 in Woodford County KY. Robert had a first marriage around 1786 to Margaret HAMILTON. Robert MCKEE's parents were John  MCKEE and Jane LOGAN. There is much information about the MCKEE family in the book "The McKees of Virginia and Kentucky." John LATTA and Peggy MCKEE married 13 Jan. 1816 in Woodford County KY. Jennie JACK was living in Woodford County at that time, writing a note that give permission for her daughter to marry John LATTA. Very possible these families or portions of them emigrated together from Northern Ireland in the 1700s. Virginia Latta Curulla, latta4gen@earthlink.net, Seattle, WA, Branch 22
LATTA/ MCMORRIS/ MORRIS/ WOOD/ ANDERSON Info from Cumberland County, NS, Genealogy Society. Joseph Latta was born about 1798 in Ireland, likely St. Johnston near Ardagh, and died in 1874 at River Hebert. He likely was in Nova Scotia by 1820. He married Elizabeth McMorris or Morris (1811-1844), who came with her parents to  Cumberland County in 1817. Joseph and Elizabeth had four children: Abraham (1835-1919) who married Diana Wood, Matthew (abt. 1838-1864), Elizabeth (1840-1920) who married Thomas Edward ANDERSON of Sackville about 1861, and Jane (abt. 1844-1882) who married David AMOS. Most of the Lattas in Nova Scotia in earlier times were in the River Hebert region. Keith Latta, klatta@shaw.ca
LATTA/ LATTE/ SMITH I am looking at the 1930 census for Wayne Twp., Monroe Co., OH. There is a James M. SMITH, 75 and beneath him Maggie E. LATTA [or perhaps LATTE?], daughter 41. Can anyone identify this family? Which LATTA or LATTE is the husband of Maggie E? Thank you. Betty Kitchen, Branch 17, Twinsburg, OH
LATTA/ TURNER Can anyone give me the parents for the following person? I thought she was a daughter of Anna Belle LATTA and William Forest TURNER, both born ca 1875, but I have been told that they had seven children and I have the names of those seven from the 1910 census. The Mary I mentioned in that census died in 1919 so it cannot be her. I took the picture of the tombstone two weeks ago in the Moose Ridge Cemetery in Monroe Co., OH. Name Mary L. AGIN. Gender: Female. Date of Death: November 26, 2000. Birth Date: May 23, 1917. Volume: 32620. Certificate: 093273. Father's Surname: Turner. Time of Death: 11:03 a.m. Marital Status: widowed. LATTA/ MATHER My ggrandfather was Robert LATTO MATHER, married Mary Jane Mackenzie in New Jersey, USA about 1880. He may have come to the US from Fife before 1870. His mother was Margaret LATTO and father was James MATHER. My ggrandfather (Robert LATTO MATHER) lived in the household with Robert LATTO, age 80, b. Scotland, according to the New Jersey 1870 census. Mary Jane Mackenzie's father, John MacKenzie, was born in Scotland (Fife I think) and her mother, Margaret BRUCE MACKENZIE was also from Scotland. Might these people be in your research? twosmr@aol.com

CLARENCE G. LATTA Hi All, As I was sitting here this fine Sunday morning looking for information on Rev. William Latta and his letter dated 1813 my mind drifted to the life long genealogical work of Clarence G. LATTA (Branch 13, #205 Clarence G. (6) Latta). The last I remember all his work was sitting in a few boxes in his son David's closet, would anyone know if that has changed? Any updates? George Latta, Branch 13, georgelattasr@charter.net
CLARENCE LATTA George...thanks for reminding us of the remarkable genealogy research on the LATTA family history done by Clarence Latta. I only met Clarence once - it was during 1987. I was traveling from Vancouver Island to Kingston, Ontario to attend my daughter's wedding, and arranged to visit Clarence at his home in Oshawa. He was retired after working all his life for General Motors. As you are aware, he devoted almost every day of his retirement years to Latta family research. Until that day I had very little interest or knowledge about our family history. We spent many hours reviewing the incredible research he had completed. Various family trees on large sheets of paper covered a complete wall in his office. I was "hooked" when he pointed to my name among countless names on the family tree. Filing cabinets were filled with historic documents (wills, land deeds, photos, etc.) and correspondence with Lattas all over the world. I was overwhelmed and, at the end of the day, left with an interest in our family history that remains to this day. We kept in touch for some years thereafter - he was a true 'gentleman." I, too, have wondered many times what has happened to the incredible amount of research that Clarence completed. Keith Latta, Victoria, BC, Branch 13
LATA Hi, my grandfather was Antonio LATA, born in Galicia, Spain 1909. I known it is almost impossible to prove, but do you know if there is any connection between Scotland and Spain? All were Celtic regions, and I know some people had to emigrate from the islands to the continent because of political or religious causes. If you are interested in, I could send you the information I was able to get (I am just starting with my mother's family.) Cheers. Monica@dorsch-martinelli.com
LATTA/ DAVIS Hello. Last year I added my Latta ancestors to the Branch list; I think at the time we were in Branch 13. Shortly after, we disappeared, and I have been unable to figure out where we went. At the time, we were (I believe) the oldest branch, dating back to Wilmington, Delaware (c. 1700), then Orange County, North Carolina. Do you have any idea where my folks would've been transferred to? I've searched several branches, but can't find my  Robert Davis and Jane LATTA that married at Old Swede's Church, Wilmington, Delaware in 1751. If you can steer me in the right branch, I would appreciate it! I believe that Jane LATTA's father was a "Robert LATTA" from North Carolina, that was one of four brothers that came from Ireland. Thank you. Andrew Bergstrom, Birmingham, Michigan, Bergstrom@aol.com
LATTA/ SUMMERTON Would you please enlighten me about the Tabor SUMMERTON listed with the LATTA Branch. Just what is this branch of what? My husband is a descendant of Tabor SUMMERTON through his son Charles, we have been unable to find any documents concerning the birth of said son Charles. We are really confused by this thinking its possible that Tabor and his wife adopted Charles as the age that Elizabeth supposedly had Charles according to the Mormons site she would have been well into her sixties, I think 67. Any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mina Summerton, bearcat2@zoominternet.net
LATTA/ MISSOURI Never knew there were so many LATTAs!! I have a very large extended family. I just started researching our family name and have found this site with this message board. It makes me wonder if I am related to any of you. I have just started this search so I don't have very much information yet. But my father's name is James Nelson LATTA and his father's name was William LATTA. I think his middle initial was E, but I'm not to sure this is correct. We all reside in Missouri in the Kansas City area and suburbs such as Independence, Missouri, Blue Springs, Harrisonville or Leesummit. Not much but I will have more soon. Anyone related? Thx. P. Latta, pttiann@hotmail.com
