First, I
want to sincerely thank everyone on this
list and those through the Latta Newsletter
who sent me snippets trying to help with my
Lattas. For sure, documented from the
Latta Bible, census records, death
certificates, etc., this is what I know:
1850 Census records in Georgia show: John
Latty, age 26, place of Birth, Tennessee,
Francis, 22, place of birth, Tennessee,
John, 4, 1846, born Georgia, Thomas, 3,
1847, born Georgia, William6/12, 1849, born
Georgia. Note: I think the John
listed here is "possibly" the John Wesley
that folks are trying to connect to my
branch. If it is the same, as you can
see, he is the brother of my Thomas, not
his father. 1850 Census - Georgia. There is
a Fleming Latty listed, age 21, Senna
Latty, age 26, Jennifer Latty, age 5, and a
John Latty, age 2. Says they were all
born in Tennessee. Is it possible
that Fleming and John are brothers?
Unfortunately, I cannot locate them in the
1860 census. If any of you have the
1860 census showing John and Frances
(Fannie Conner), can you please share?
Thanks much. Now on to the 1870
Census. 1870 Census-Arkansas. Latty,
John, looks like his age is shown as 55.
he is still a farmer, Francis, age 42.
In 1870 the older children are gone, John,
Thomas and William John would be 24, Thomas
would be 23, and William would be 22, or
close to those ages. Children listed
in the 1870 census - James M. (probably
James Madison) age 17, born in Georgia,
Mary J., age 15, born Georgia, Sarah E, age
12, born Georgia (this is the Sarah that
married into the Wittington family), Martha
E., age 10, born in Arkansas, (it is her
baby that was buried alive, NOTE, it didn't
die.), Andrew J., age 8, born in Arkansas
(this is "Doc" and the one tried for
murder), Margaret, age 3, born in Arkansas,
Rebecca F., age 2, born in Arkansas.
Note: the last four children were born in
Arkansas. Any help or input on the
above family is greatly appreciated. |

| LATTA/LATTY Tennessee Census |
I have listed below the LATTA/LATTY, etc. individuals whom I have found in various census indexes in Tennessee in 1820 and 1830. I have looked at census records in Tennessee because my great grandfather (Branch 22) Alexander W. (William?) LATTA was born there 25 July 1827. His father, William W. (William?) LATTA was in Gibson County TN at that time, as documented by court records. William's brothers, James, Harvey and Matthew all were in Gibson County TN during that period. William returned to Woodford/Franklin County, Kentucky by 1833. His daughter, Mary Jane, was born there in 1834. Sometime later, Matthew and Harvey returned to Kentucky as well. This Branch 22 James appeared to have stayed in Gibson County, although I have not found any death record for him and have not been able to trace his descendants (Matthew, Mary, Charles, and Catharine, born 1827 to 1833). There would have been time between James' marriage in 1825 for an older son to have been born, who would have been out of the home by the 1850 census which named individuals in the household.) I think it's likely that the LATTAs in Maury and Hickman Counties all were Branch 9, although I haven't verified that. Perhaps someone in Branch 9 knows. Besides my Branch 22 LATTAs in Gibson County, and the LATTAs in Maury and Hickman Counties, there were several other LATTAs in the 1820 and 1830 census info for Tennessee. These were found in Williamson County, Henry County, and Davidson Counties. Davidson County (formed in 1783 from Washington) is just north of Williamson, and northeast from Maury and Hickman. Williamson County formed from Davidson 1799) is just south of Davidson, and adjacent to and NE of Hickman and Maury. Henry County formed from the "Western District" in 1821) is NW from Hickman and Maury, on the west side of the river that runs easterly through them. Henry is north east of Gibson County. Gibson County was formed in 1823 from the Western District. 1820 TN Census: LATTA, John, Maury, one male, 45, two females 16-26, one 45; LATTA, Martha, Davidson, 1 M 16-18, 1 M 16-26, 1 F 16-26, 1 F 45; LATTEY, Samuel, Maury (Branch 9?); LATTY, Rachael, Hickman (Branch 9?), LATTY, William, Maury, (Branch 9?). In another index I found the following: LATTA, Thomas, Maury (Branch 9?).
1830 TN Census: LATTA, James, Gibson (Branch 22); LATTA, Mary, Gibson (Branch 22), LATTIE, John H., Henry (??); LATTIE, Stephen, Henry (??); LATTY, John, Williamson (Branch 9?); LATTY, John J., Maury (Branch 9?); LATTY, Rachael, Hickman (Branch 9?); LATTY, Samuel, Maury (Branch 9?); LATTY, William, Maury (Branch 9?).
I can verify that the Gibson County TN LATTAs are Branch 22. Can someone in Branch 9 verify that those in Maury, Hickman, and Williamson all are Branch 9? If so, it might be worth our time to investigate court records in Davidson and Henry Counties to look for LATTA/LATTY in records around 1828. If Branch 9 cannot claim the John LATTY in Williamson County, you might look there as well. |

Hi. I received the Latta Genealogy Newsletter today. Some good and interesting information. I am currently the custodian of my parents old photo albums. Many of the pictures that I have were taken in Denver and Colorado Springs area about 1900 during the years that my great grandfather, William Ray "Freck" LATTA was in the area. In his boo, Reminiscence of Pioneer Life, Freck mentions the name Will, which would be his son William Ray LATTA. I have many old photos of William Ray LATTA's six sons and families. Some time ago, I made copies out of a 1903 Denver telephone directory. Robert H. LATTA, attorney is listed in the directory and as Virginia CURULLA pointed out, he had developed considerable information on the LATTA families. There about are a dozen LATTA names listed in the 1903 directory and I will mail a copy of this directly to Virginia Curulla, Kenneth A., Mueller, and B. Mitchel LATTA, the Branch #3 Captain, and perhaps we can identify them. I also have many old photos of my grandmother, Daisy Marguerite "Pearl" LATTA BRYANT. Pearl married William Ray (Will) LATTA in Denver. Pearl's mother was listed in the 1903 phone book as Cora Belle DAY and Cora Belle is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver. I have many old photos of the DAY family in Denver around 1900. Does anyone want or need information on the DAY family in Denver about 1900? I am currently scanning the old photos to CD in order that I can share and provide pictures to persons that want them. Ideally I would like to copy the CD's to CD DVD. More later. |

| LATTA/ POOLE |
Looking for information for Julia (LATTA) POOLE born 1817/1818 in Pennsylvania, possibly Huntington County. Her family moved to West Virginia for a few years around 1830 then moved on to Monroe County, Ohio. Died in 1894. She married Joseph POOL or POOLE around 1850 and may have moved on to Noble or Guernsey Counties in her later years. The children I have for them in the 1860 census in Center Twp of Monroe County were: Richard, age 14, Eva Ann, age 12, John C., age 10, Gulia (spelling there) was 42 and Joseph was 43. In the 1880 census Julia is 63 and there is no mention of her husband. Living with her are a daughter Christi Ann, age 33, and 2 grandchildren (Joseph H, age 8 and Alva E., age 5). Wondering if Christi Ann is the same as Eva Ann? I also had that she had a daughter Catherine which did not appear in either the 1860 or 1880 censuses. I have no further information on any of the children or for her husband and his ancestry. I do have alot to share about her parents' family (John and Anna HOCKENBERRY LATTA). Any help offered would certainly be appreciated. Hope someone has the time to get back to me. |

| LATTA/ POOL/ MERCER |
I am looking at the handwritten will (with the raised seal ( of my gr gr grandfather John LATTA (Branch 17) who died in Wayne Township of Monroe County, Ohio in 1865. "Item fourth --- My other four children Samuel LATTA, Julia A. POOL, Lucinda MERCER, George M. LATTA, and also Hearriett S. LATTA and Allice LATTA, heirs of Abraham LATTA, all of whom I here mention as having received all that I allow them to have of my estate." Lucinda married Jeremiah MERCER and resided in Tyler County, WV. From my interpretation of this, Abraham would have been a deceased child of his (although originally I thought a brother whose children he cared for). Recently I have found that when a child predeceases the writer of the will, that child's share goes on to the grandchildren, so now I think Abraham was a child. Although I have a lot of information on the other children as well as John Copeland LATTA who was "bequeathed all my personal estate except.." and Sarah Jane NALLY and Catharine MORRIS who each are bequeathed $20. I can find nothing at all on Abraham, Heariett and Allice. John was born about 1784 in Huntingdon County, PA, married Anna HOCKENBURY/BERRY (can't find anything on her either), went to WV somewhere between 1836 and 1844, stayed there for a short time then on to Monroe County, Ohio. He was not in the 1840 census of Monroe County, Ohio. He was not in the 1840 census of Monroe County, but was in the 1850, but by then most of the children were out of the house and John and Anna were in their early 60's. John Copeland's obituary said he was born in Fairmount, WV. However, information on the older children is that they were born in Huntingdon Co., PA (for George Madison, 1822) and some we just know PA (for Alucinda b. 1821) I hope some of you have the time and patience to read through this. I know it's long. Sure would appreciate some help. |

| LATTA/ SCOTT |
First I want to thank everyone who are trying to help me with my LATTA lineage. I have a great, deep concern for the info on Branch #11. Does anyone have the birth date of Martha SCOTT? John was born in 1758...even if she was born 20 years later in 1778, she was too old to have some of these children. Many have tried to connect this to Branch #52 and I'm having a difficult time with the dates and making sense of the connections. Any help is greatly appreciated. Please, can someone document the information on this branch so I can see where Branch #52 connects? Thanks a lot. |

| LATTA/ LATTY/ SCOTT |
Hi Connie, I have a copy of the Application for Cherokee Citizenship for William Latta.
Included are copies of the affidavits, etc. I received this information from Marty Perez. In one affidiavit in Webbers Falls, Elizabeth Tyner says that she is the Aunt of William Latty. His grandparents were John Latty and Frances Scott Latty. John and Frances Latty were her parents. She says that her
mother's maiden name was Scott. Her father was George Scott a well known and recognized Cherokee by blood who died near Chattanooga in Tenn. It says Francis
Latty came to I.T. about 2 years after Elizabeth did which was 1850. Elizabeth says that her age is about 75 yrs (documented was dated August 1896.) I
also found Frances Latty with her daughters Sarah, Lucinda, Margaret and Susan in
McDonald County Missouri in 1860. Francis was 70 and born in TN. They are
surrounded by other Latty and Tyner families living in Buffalo and Pineville townships. I guess that means that her husband was 32 yrs. older so when he died he must have been over 90 and she was around 60. If I didn't already send you copies of the affidavits, I can send them right away. Please let me know. I hope this gives you something to start on? I am anxious to make the connection also. Thanks, |

| W.H. LATTA |
My name is Josephine Manfredi, and I live near Philadelphia, PA. I have an old clipping (probably saved by my mother) of a poem entitled "The Little School Girl". The next lines says "For the instructor by W. H. Latta". The poem begins "My name complete is Josephine, My friends all call me Joe"- this is the reason my mother saved it, I guess! I've always wondered who W. H. LATTA was, and the only reference I have found is in a newspaper story from Linn County, Kansas of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Shattuck. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Latta are listed as having given the couple a wedding gift of a set of silver nut picks! Can anyone reading this inquiry enlighten me as to the author of the poem? If so, I'll send you a copy of the poem for your family records! Sincerely, |

James LATTA of Branch 12 (who established the Latta Plantation) married a Jane KNOX in NC in 1796. Is she a relative of the KNOX family earlier connected to Branch 16? Presumably this would make her a relative of General Henry KNOX, prominent in the War of Independence. |

I am interested in learning more about my maternal grandfather's family. I believe he was from North Carolina, South Carolina or Georgia. I think he may have been somehow related to the Duke of DURHAM tobacco family but I am not sure how. I think he might have been partly Creek or Cherokee, again just not sure. His name was William Ira LATTA. I think his mother and sister were named Eugenia. I think he was born in 1877. Thanks. |

I have found records for other years, but after discovering the changes to Branch 11, I want to thin out what has already been published before sending along. I have a few questions that I thought you might ask other researchers regarding Branch 11. 1) I guess it is now believed that Susan died and William died digging her grave. Does anyone know when William and Susan died? 2) I have copies of the Federal census for 1870 McDonald County, but I do not find Marjorie Caroline with William and Susan. I have found differences between state and federal census before. Does anyone have access to state census records? Is Marjorie listed in the state? Thanks. |
