LATTA

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August 8 for John Burr Latta, 22, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Father Val Handwerker with Bishop J. Terry Steib, S.V.D. presided. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Latta was a graduate of Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis and had been admitted as a medical student at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He was employed at St. Francis Hospital and served as a volunteer counselor for Camp Good Grief. He served as president of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the medical honor society. A parishioner at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Concpetion, Latta served as a minister of Holy Communion.

Survivors include his parents, Dr. James Latta and Judge Jennie Latta, both of Memphis; two sisters, Evelyn Teresa Latta and Judith Catherine Latta, both of Memphis; three brothers, Robert Wherry Latta, Kenneth Spicer Latta and David Stuart Latta, all of Memphis; two grandmothers, Sandra Davidson and Marilynn Latta; and a step-grandmother, June Davidson.
